the sword of the Spirit

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. (To the Ephesians written from Rome, by Tychicus.

  1. The Armor of God is a metaphor used in the Bible to describe the spiritual protection that God offers to Christians.
    It is mentioned in Ephesians 6:10-18, where the apostle Paul describes each piece of armor and its spiritual significance.
    The 6 elements of the Armor of God are:
    Belt of Truth, Breastplate of Righteousness, Shoes of Readiness for the Gospel of Peace, Shield of Faith, Helmet of Salvation, and Sword of the Spirit.

    1. Belt of Truth:
    The truth sets you free! The belt unites the Armor; the truth unites you with the blessings of God. Jesus is the Truth and His true words are written in the Bible.
    How to use: study the Bible and believe in His truth.

    2. Breastplate of Righteousness:
    Jesus is your righteousness! The breastplate protects your heart; Jesus’ righteousness protects you from sin. When you repent of your sins and dedicate your life to Jesus, He erases the injustice of sin from your heart.
    How to use: repent of your sins and believe that Jesus has saved you. Seek to do what is right.

    3. Shoes of Readiness for the Gospel of Peace:
    Let God guide your way! Shoes protect your feet; the Gospel of Peace protects your path. The desire to proclaim the Gospel helps to avoid many wrong paths because the greatest testimony is a life guided by God.
    How to use: avoid evil and violence. Seek to promote peace in all situations.

    4. Shield of Faith:
    Faith overcomes the enemy! The shield protects from arrows; faith protects from the devil’s attacks. Faith helps you defend yourself from accusations, doubts, and temptations from the devil.
    How to use: in times of doubt and temptation, choose to believe in Jesus. Seek to resolve your doubts, to strengthen your faith.

    5. Helmet of Salvation:
    Jesus saves! The helmet protects the head; salvation protects thoughts. Jesus saves us from slavery to sin. You no longer need to live thinking about bad things that lead to sin.
    How to use: spend more time thinking about God’s things. Reject wrong thoughts and believe in salvation.

    6. Sword of the Spirit:
    The word of God is the sword of the Spirit! The sword wounds and defends against the enemy; the word of God destroys the enemy. The Holy Spirit gives life to the word of God and gives you the power to defeat the enemy.
    How to use: fight lies and temptations by declaring the truths of the Bible. Trust in God’s word.

  2. In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.
    Revelation 1:16

    For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
    Hebrews 4:12

    so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.
